Developments
Lean Films
A new breed of thin films, many up to 30% thinner than the current industry standard, are now available
• Thin films are ideal substitutes for both standard PE and PP films and by definition use less material and allow more labels to be carried in each reel
• Significant cost reductions and production efficiencies can be achieved by moving to lighter weight label films
• BETTER YIELDS - More labels per reel = less reel changes and waste in converting
• Sound environmental argument for thinner material
Cold Foiling
With cold foiling or dieless foiling as it is known first prints a glue as if it were an ink, using a normal printing plate. The foil is then rolled onto the glue and the waste carrier pulled away to reveal a perfect metallic image adhered to the substrate. This allows foil to be printed in-line with inks, at favourable speeds using cheap, quickly obtainable printing plates as the image carrier
Interesting foil effect such as half-tone foiling are possible using this method of embellishment.
Green Labelling
There are a range of new green materials available;
• Biodegradable Materials
• Biodegradable labels made from replenishable and renewable resources, incorporating a completely biodegradable adhesive
• Recycled Material Content
